Background
In December 2003 ASI were invited to tender for the Myer store at Bondi. Working closely with ADCO, the company engaged by Myer to project manage the building fitout, ASI had a few weeks to submit their tender. Taking direction from Myer's design team and original concept drawings provided with the tender package, the team at ASI headed up by Commercial Projects Manager, developed a manufacturing strategy to produce unique shopfittings that focused on the functional structure and technical application of ASI's fixtures and fittings.
The tender was successful. ASI was awarded the contract to provide 90% of all fittings and fixtures across three floors of innovative and diverse retails pace. With only 11 weeks before the store opening ASI drew on it's resources from all over Australian and Asia. ASI set to work co-ordinating and manufacturing the thousands of components that would go into creating the WOW factor.
Custom build and innovation in commodity products
To create a unique retail space hundreds of custom built systems fixtures and fittings were produced; showcases counters, gondolas, display dais, racks, cashier desks featured sleek glass joinery along with the texture of brushed aluminium nickel plated steel and moulded resin. ASI's commodity products were used in innovative ways. Slatwall® was illuminated, Mini Minimo backplates were fitted to a dramatic glass wall and Matthews Pole clamps gave a funky feel to the display in the youth wear department.
Installation:
With just 5 weeks until opening, ASI arrived on-site to begin the mammoth task of installing three floors of fixtures. Excellent timing and organisation were vital to its success. As construction finished in one area, the ASI team got to work on that area's display leaving merchandisers to dress the fixtures only a few hours later. The logistical organisation meant that deliveries were co-ordinated between all companies involved in the project and with 7 days left, ASI staff began working around the clock to deliver on time.
5,000 man hours, over 2,000 cubic metres of product and 40 semi-trailer loads of stock combined with ASI's, project management and manufacturing expertise generated the WOW reaction as customers first entered Myer Bondi.
